Reason 6,728 why final assessment projects blow.

The sun. The sun is finally out and what the hell am I doing? I'M DOING MY SEEMINGLY NEVERENDING FINAL ASSESSMENT PROJECT, that's what I'm doing.

The only thing that's making this quasi-ok (and I really mean barely ok) is the Dave Matthews DVD Live in Central Park playing in the backgroud. THAT'S IT!

So I get this phone call...

I received a call from TD Canada Loss Prevention today. I was away from my phone so this automated voice left a message for me indicating that "Ms Megan Elisabeth Pratt must call 1-866-can't-remember immediately". So, I call and get this pleasant guy by the name of Matt.

Me: Matt, I have received a voicemail from you indicating I needed to urgently call you.
Matt: May I have your name.
Me: Blah blah blah
Matt: Your address.
Me: Blah blah blah
Matt: Your debit card number
Me: Blah blah blah blah
Matt: May I have your mothers maiden name, shoe size and eye colour.
Me: Blah?
Matt: Ms. Pratt it appears your debit card has been copied by way of a debit card machine at an establishment you recently purchased items from. In fact, this establishment is in the process of being investigated for card fraud.
Me: Jigga wha?
Matt: It also appears that your card has been used in Quebec. TD Canada Trust was able to stop track this transaction and stopped it right away. Your funds were not touched.
Me: Uh... did this take place at the Chinese food restaurant on Friday?
Matt: I am unable to verify that as the establishment is under investigation.
Me: So that's a yes...
Matt: Ahem... it would fit within the time-frame of when your card was copied, yes.
Me: That fucking dive of a Chinese food restaurant gave me the runs and copied my debit card??
Matt: Ma'am, your card has been cancelled and I would suggest going to your local branch and getting a new card along with a new pin number.
Me: Uh huh...
Matt: Is there anything else we can do for you today?
Me: Uh... nadda?

So long story short, DON'T DINE at the Signature Palace Restaurant in Signal Hill. Super dodgy. And really I don't know what's worse... the owners who are screwing around with people's debit / credit cards or the fact that I was sickeningly sick all night pleading for death after eating the sweet & sour pork.

The Uggconomy.

Why people will buy Uggs over Manolos. Quite frankly, I'm tired of seeing them everywhere. Even when they're new, they still look old and used and way too comfortable to be in public with.

Comfort to me? A stunning pair of stilettos, not clogs.

The joys of apartment living; episode 8,649...

It is 3:42 a.m., Saturday morning. I am sleeping and dreaming of wonderful things. Suddenly...

O: grumble
M: wtf
O: I love this place...
M: oh for the love of jesus...

I catch complete awareness of what is going on around me and suddenly am infuriated with the nerve of people. My neighbour who's living room shares my bedroom wall has cranked George Michael on his stereo and is singing at the top of his lungs along with him. The worst part? It's "Faith".

I get out of bed, not even fixing my pjs or hair, unlock my door and march to apartment #10 and knock 3 times.

Neighbour: oh my god - it's the neighbour - turn it down!
Neighbour #2: shit shit shit shit...

I am standing with one hand leaning against the wall and other on my hip not making eye contact with the peep hole. I can see their feet under their door, open the f'ing door... finally -

Neighbour: oh uh hi...

Neighbour boy opens his door in a pair of jeans with the fly undone, no shirt and dishevelled blonde hair.

M: So like... I'm all for George Michael and all - in fact, huge fan of the song Fast Love... just not at 3:45 a.m.
Neighbour: Yah I'm sorry. Just got back from being away for the past 10 months and...
M: I saw you the other day unloading groceries from your car and the week before coming home from work.
Neighbour: ...
M: Ok so if you could...
Neighbour: How long have you lived here for?
M: 7 months.
Neighbour: oooooh.
M: Thanks for turning it down.

I march back to my apartment and gently slam the door. Head to bed and lay back down.

O: I am going to have Faith in my head for the rest of the night.
M: humming Fast Love...

* Lease is sooooo almost up... Thank. The. Lord.

Never a dull moment.

So I'm walking back to my car this morning after getting my usual (personal-grande-5-shot-sugarfree-vanilla-lactaid-light-foam-caramel-macchiato) when a random hobo asks me for some change. I reply, "Sorry".

Just last week when I was asked for money for a beer, ahem, a cup of coffee - I bought the dude a short dark. See, I'm a nice person!

This morning though, after I said 'sorry' bum unleashes his fury and begins flicking coins at my car. Coins. At. Alistair.

Mofo, if you're looking for change, throwing it at my car isn't going to help your situation.

Things that suck.

If my neighbour across the hall from me doesn't turn down his music, I might bust a cap in his ass.

I wouldn't mess with me. I'm a donkey on the edge.

In case you were wondering if you should run out and rent Alien vs. Predator Requiem...

... seriously. Don't even think about it. Slap yourself now if you are thinking about it.

Ugh.

Instead, you should run out and rent Into the Wild. Even if you do it just to hear the soundtrack by Eddie Vedder. So good.

I watched an hour and a half worth of infomercials last night and you know what? They won.

I decided since my skin believes I'm a 13 year old who is going through puberty, I once again need to figure something out regarding how to have flawless skin. Was on ProActiv for a bit and I seriously thought my skin was burning off my face (read the ingredients label and you'll find windshield washer fluid in it). In fact, it made my skin worse. Then it was Garnier Pure. Cute. Worked on the Coast - but - my skin completely clears up when I'm on the Coast. Maybe someone needs to bottle salty sea air and sell it...

Anyways, this infomercial, which I have seen a couple times before, intrigued me.

It's called Murad and the face stuff is super pricey if you buy it individually from the stores. Like, hella pricey. Like, I would need to decide between car payments and skin care pricey. But because they are so wonderful and "sincerely" want to help out all the people with shit skin, they have a cute little package which is cheaper and apparently gets the job done. So, for the low price of $36 I am their newest guinea pig.

If this doesn't work, I don't know what will.

Just an update...

... the shoe wheel is really not as cool in person as it looks online. And for $79.99, it really wasn't worth it.

Le sigh.

Give yourself a big ol' pat on the back... or a smack across the back of the head.

Also on the Calgary Herald Q.

So apparently Alberta isn't actually ready for a change. From the dismal election results, it looks like Alberta is happy with the same ol' same ol'. The same government, the same ideas, the same people, the same everything. It's 2008, if Alberta isn't ready for a change now, I fear they may never be.

As soon as I marked the "x" on the ballot, I knew right away my vote wasn't going to count. I may as well have put a smiley face in the circle instead. That's about how much my vote counted in the grand scheme of things.

I guess with only 41% of eligible 2.5 million voters actually voting – that's 4 out of 10 people – it doesn't say much about those who have a chance to make a difference. We are given an opportunity to exercise our right to vote and only 40% of eligible voters show up? Are you kidding me? New episodes of our favorite shows aren't on until April – so, what's the excuse?

Is it because people have to physically go to a polling station to cast their vote? If that's all it is – we need to look at some sort of online voting system. Is it because Election Day is on a workday instead of a Saturday? I know the last thing I want to do after my 8 hour work day is to find the polling station only to stand in line and cast my vote… but I still did it.

Simply put, it's embarrassing. In a country that allows us to exercise our democratic right, Monday nights results were disgusting.

Nicely done Alberta. I hope you can still sleep at night.

And another 4 years...

And when I do vote, it doesn't help because the same guy gets in. Like seriously people. It's like the Alberta people are scared to vote for something different - something that might make a difference. But no, they'll just continue doing the same thing because they're familiar with it.

Things that bother me.

10. Days when it's freakin' minus stupid cold. Seriously. Minus what now?!

17.12.07

Things that bother me.

9. The words: penetrate, lubricate, moist and panties.

Things that bother me.

  1. Car Insurance Companies. I understand they have a job to do, you know, like protect me from stuff, but seriously. They have the right to make up a date as to when a double payment is to come out of my bank account - without any more than 2 days notice... and before Christmas. Seriously? Yah don't think so.
  2. People who not replace toilet paper but instead leave the roll on the counter for someone else to replace. C'mon... it's not that hard.
  3. Family Guy. It's not that funny. Or... maybe it's me?
  4. Starbucks baristas who give me a stupid look when I call my drink... and properly at that. I went through a week, yes, a full week of training on how to call a Starbucks drink properly. It's size first, (unless it's a double tall drink and then it's "double tall blah blah blah"), decaf (if it's not decaf, forget this box), number of shots (if it's a single in a grande cup, you have to indicate that, if it's just a single in a tall cup, don't mention it), syrup (if it's different than what the drink already has in it: ex. vanilla latte), milk choice (if it's different than 2% (if it's skim, say nonfat), then custom (lite whip, no whip, lite foam, extra foam, long shot, in a clam shell, etc.) and then what the drink name actually is (ex. latte, mocha, etc.). In the end it will sound beautiful and professional like this: venti sugarfree vanilla lactaid lite foam caramel macchiato.
  5. The fact that I get sick eating something when everyone else is fine.
  6. People who cheat.
  7. Feeling emotional and moody but being afraid to be called bitchy or pissy therefore trying to hide it, which only makes it worse.
  8. How much Christmas presents cost but how much it concerns me to not look cheap or not get everything someone has on their list.
